Largely enhanced dielectric properties of polymer composites with HfO2 nanoparticles for high-temperature film capacitors

Abstract Polymer dielectrics are preferred materials for high-energy-density capacitive energy storage. In particular, high-temperature that can withstand harsh conditions, e.g., ?150 °C, is of crucial importance advanced electronics and electrical power systems. Herein, dielectric polymer composites composed polyetherimide (PEI) matrix hafnium oxide (HfO2) nanoparticles presented. It found the incorporation HfO2 with a moderate constant wide bandgap improves simultaneously reduces high-field leakage current density PEI nanocomposites. As result, PEI/HfO2 exhibit superior storage performance to engineering polymers at elevated temperatures. Specifically, nanocomposite 3 vol% displays discharged 2.82 J/cm3 150 °C, which 77% higher than neat PEI. This work demonstrates effectiveness nanofiller medium into on improvement properties composites.
